Martin O'Neill cites with Gareth Barry, Aston Villa reach the UEFA Cup

Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill has suggested that it might be winning the battle to keep Gareth Barry at Villa Park. After seeing his side struggle to overcome Danish side Odense in the second leg of this Intertoto Cup third round tie to go through 3-2 overall, O'Neill claimed his club probably valued the England midfielder as more important than Liverpool.

"We do not want to go to him," said O'Neill. "The price we are asking for Gareth Barry is a real and realistic price for a player so good, and really cheap for a player of quality. Please do not say that anything else. I do not want to go to him.

"Liverpool did not meet with us for a week on certain things sends a real message. This player has been greatly Villa 10 years and people came out very strongly in his favor.

"We need Gareth Barry at the club. Being a terrible loss for us if we want to go. It's very clear that he more valuable than perhaps Liverpool do. He is a top-quality European player, and you really want him to stay.

"It was a brilliant performance by him today, taking into account who has played only 60 minutes at Walsall. Speaker should hang around another year and see if we can make the kind of progress he wants."

It's hard to say what the state of the game is between the two clubs. Villa insists that Liverpool will keep fulfilling its valuation of £ 18 million player for Liverpool and maintain the offers below.

Barry started on the bench after receiving mistreatment by Villa fans at a game reserve in Walsall, but arrived 15 minutes after replacing left-back Wilfred Bouma, who took ill after maintaining a dislocated right leg . This time, the Holte End welcomed him with chants of "No one Gareth Barry."

If you do lose in the Champions League with Liverpool, Barry can always console himself with the Uefa Cup. But Villa, confirmed that the 2.5 million pounds signing of goalkeeper Brad Friedel, 37, from Blackburn, got there the hard way. They are not convincing in the first half, during which visitors can take, but scored twice to fine goalkeepers Stuart Taylor.

Ashley Young won the game with a spectacular goal early in the second half. Cut inside former Villa player Eric Djemba Djemba, beat goalkeeper Arkadiusz Onyszko couple with an increase of 20 shots yards. Friedel, meanwhile, has directed a top four place for his new club, something that certainly Barry adopted.
