Ronaldo has been granted a long pause by Manchester United after giving Portugal for Euro 2008, and as such only resume duties at Old Trafford after the team has returned from his tour of Africa for training.
"The decision was taken because the director wants to make sure Cristiano is fit for the start of the Premier League and not suffer burnout," an official was quoted as saying by United KickoffNigeria.com
Manchester United are scheduled to play a friendly match in the countries in West Africa as part of their pre-season training.
Rumours suggest that today Ronaldo has also passed the opportunity to meet with United boss Alex Ferugson over the growing rumours that he is bound by Real Madrid.
