Man Utd in no hurry over new coach

Chief Manchester United Sir Alex Ferguson said that the club are in no rush to appoint a successor to assistant manager Carlos Queiroz.

With less than five weeks to go before the start of the Premier League season, Queiroz left Old Trafford to take the coaching job to his Portugal on Friday. "Take your time with these things," said Ferguson.I knew when Portugal came to him that it would be very difficult for us. But we have good staff and we'll take care to carry. "

United currently coaches Mike Phelan, Brian McClair and Rene Meulensteen are among the names mentioned in the framework for the post, along with the likes of former Reds defender Laurent Blanc. "It's always disappointing to lose good men and Carlos was a good man," added Ferguson.

"He was honest, very loyal to me and a good coach, who brought a lot of initiatives that now onwards. It took a challenge in that people do, if they have to patriotic passion and nationalistic fervour to go and manage their country. He has that. "

Ferguson was speaking following his side the first pre-season after the deadline, a 2-0 victory over his former side Aberdeen, in a testament to the Dons' European Cup Winners Cup-winning side 25 years ago.

The Scots enjoyed the opportunity to recall his first triumph on the European stage, but made sure the occasion does not overshadow its attention on the performance of the team at Pittodrie. "It was a good day for me, is emotional driving to the stadium and seeing people who had not seen for years," said Ferguson after a first half penalty Michael Carrick and a header from Wayne Rooney gave United 2 -0 Win.

"It was our first game and was very open and easy match for both teams. They had a couple of occasions and we had to defend well at times what was good. Wayne had a couple opportunities in the first half and some good races round the shoulders of defenders that could have come with us a couple of goals. He scored the goal and the header and will be happy. "

Ferguson refused to answer questions in the Fifa President, Sepp Blatter, recent comments about Cristiano Ronaldo's future at the club.(bbc)
