Kaka Renews Until 2013=Kaka Sampai 2013

Photobucket

AC Milan have officially announced that Kaka has renewed his contract at the San Siro until 2013...

A terse statement released minutes ago by the club hierarchy confirms that the Brazilian will remain in the red and black for another five seasons. AC Milan announces that it has extended the contract that binds Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite Kakà to the società rossonera until 30 June 2013.

Kaka, 25, signed for Milan from Sao Paolo in 2003, with almost every subsequent season bringing with it speculation of a move elsewhere, such as to Real Madrid or Barcelona. By pledging his future to the club, both he and the Milan hierarchy will hope to silence such talk for the time being.(Source: Goal)

Kaka Hingga 2013

Ready to Talk!

Rio Ferdinand's agent says the defender plans to hold contract talks with Manchester United 'shortly'. The England international's current deal expires in 2009

Rio Ferdinand's agent says the defender plans to hold contract talks with Manchester United 'shortly'. The defender's current deal is due to expire in 2009 and the Premier League champions are keen to discuss an extension.

According to reports, the England international's representative Pini Zahavi wanted to wait until the summer before opening negotiations with United. But Zahavi has told Sky Sports News that there is a "plan to shortly begin talks between Rio Ferdinand and Manchester United".

When the Red Devils do open discussions, the club will be hoping to avoid the protracted negotiations which characterised Ferdinand's last contract talks. Ferdinand signed his current four-year deal in 2005, but only after several months of talks which resulted in him being booed by fans in a pre-season friendly.

The situation was eventually resolved and the 29-year-old has continued to be a mainstay of a United defence which has conceded just 15 league goals this season. Since joining the club in a then-British transfer record from Leeds United in 2002, Ferdinand has made over 250 appearances, scoring seven goals. And, having spent almost £30million on the player, United will be determined to avoid losing the former West Ham United youngster for nothing.(Source: Sportinglife)

21:00 Getafe v Racing Santander 2-0

by ade adran syahlan

TEAM NEWS

Getafe

Franck Signorino, Francisco Sousa and Miguel Pallardo are all out injured, but Rubén de la Red and Esteban Granero return to the team after missing the win over Real Madrid due to the terms of their loan agreements.

Probable Starting XI: Abbondanzieri, Contra, Diaz, Belenguer, Licht, Hernandez, Granero, Celestini, de la Red, del Moral, Uche.

Racing Santander

Jordi Lopez is still missing through injury and Brian Sarmiento is suspended by FIFA. Pedro Munitis is back in contention for a starting berth, but is likely to have to settle for a place on the bench.

Probable Starting XI: Tono, Pinillos, Oriol, Garay, Ayoze, Jorge Lopez, Colsa, Duscher, Oscar Serrano, Tchite, Smolarek.

PREDICTION by Nick Dorrington

Getafe have looked to establish their credentials in the first leg of all of their ties so far in the competition and I can see them looking to emulate this on Thursday, especially with home advantage on their side. At their best they are a match for any team and I can definitely see them scoring a couple of goals. Racing have enough good attacking players to score themselves and would be relatively content with a tight defeat as long as they get an away goal to take back to El Sardinero.

Getafe 2-1 Racing Santander.

Arsenal Need to Show Famed Mental Strength

PREVIEW ARSENAL V ASTON VILLA, MARCH 1
Photobucket

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has spent years praising his team’s mental strength and that trait faces a critical test on Saturday when the Londoners host Aston Villa in the Premier League.Arsenal’s serene progress on four fronts has been knocked horribly off course in the last five weeks and they need to stop the rot fast.

Their lukewarm interest in the FA and League Cups ended with thrashings by Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur while last week’s goalless draw in the home first leg of their Champions League tie with AC Milan handed the initiative to the Italians.

So the Premier League has become their chief hope of silverware but even that campaign took a setback last week when the leaders were held to a 2-2 draw by 10-man Birmingham City to allow Manchester United to close within three points by thrashing Newcastle United 5-1.

Wenger will be uncomfortably aware of what happened at a similar stage last season when Arsenal went out of Europe and the FA Cup as well as losing in the League Cup final in a matter of days. Within a month they had lost three successive league games and drawn another as what had looked such a promising season slid to an anticlimactic close.

LOST FOCUS

Last weekend, Arsenal’s players were visibly stunned by the extent of Eduardo da Silva’s horrific injury in the early minutes of the Birmingham game and for many their hearts were not in the contest.“Of course Eduardo has been on our minds,” Walcott told the club’s Web site (www.arsenal.com) on Wednesday. “It was a quiet coach ride home and felt just like a loss in truth.

“We had a couple of days off and then actually went bowling to keep our team spirit up. A couple of lads went to see him yesterday and reported back to the rest of us. But we have tried to forget about it in a way and concentrate on Saturday.”

Having also looked distracted at Old Trafford in the FA Cup, Arsenal will have to rediscover their focus as, with Manchester United facing a very winnable game at Fulham, another slip could swing the title race irretrievably towards the champions.

It will not be easy though as, after a bit of a wobble, sixth-placed Villa had good wins over Newcastle United and Reading and are back challenging strongly for the fourth Champions League place. United have recovered from their home defeat by Manchester City impressively, scoring 10 goals in three games and have not lost at Fulham for 44 years.Third-placed Chelsea travel across London to play West Ham United. Mancini Joyful at Lucky Roma Football Draw

Photobucket

Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini couldn't contain his joy after his side scraped a 1-1 home draw against AS Roma to maintain their nine-point lead at the top of Serie A. Francesco Totti gave Roma a deserved first-half lead with a near post flick from a sumptuous left-wing cross from Max Tonetto.

Inter were reduced to 10 men just past the hour mark after Brazilian left-back Maxwell was stretchered off just moments after Mancini made his third substitution. But following the late and harsh dismisal of Roma's French centre-back Philippe Mexes, Inter captain Javier Zanetti rifled home a right-foot volley two minutes from time to earn a share of the spoils the league leaders didn't deserve.

It means they still lead Roma by nine points at the top with Juventus, who drew 0-0 at home to Torino in the Turin derby on Tuesday, third a further four points back. "It's a draw that's worth a victory for the way it was earnt," Mancini told Sky Sport.

"Totti scored with their first chance on goal and then that shaped the course of the match. It was very difficult for us with 10 men."

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti was livid with the sending off of Mexes, whose second booking looked ridiculously harsh. "Speaking reasonably and without anger I have to say that one of Mexes's (bookings) was definitely not a foul," he said.

"It was unfair because the second booking wasn't deserved. Did that turn the game? Well, a goal followed on from it," Spalletti said before suggesting Inter forward Hernan Crespo's theatrical tumble to the ground under minimal contact from Mexes had duped the referee.

In Sicily European champions AC Milan were held to a 1-1 draw by Catania and lost fourth place to Fiorentina who beat Livorno 1-0 at home, thanks to a goal from Senegal forward Ndiaye Papa Waigo.

It was a strange match in Catania. After an insipid first half with little action and no goals, it sprung to life after the break.Teenage Brazilian forward Pato gave Milan the lead with a long range shot that Cirlo Polito should have saved.

Substitute Gionathan Spinesi salvaged a draw for Catania but they had two goals disallowed, Milan also had one chalked off and eight yellow cards were dished out by the referee. Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti was disappointed at the two dropped points. "We've missed an opportunity here, we went in front but we didn't manage to see out an important result," he said.

"I'm sorry about the situation we created for ourselves. We were taken by surprise by the goal."

Ancelotti complained that tiredness was starting to get to his players, who have played three more league matches since the turn of the year than any of their Serie A rivals, due to a fixture backlog related to their involvement in the Club World Cup in December. "We can't do any more at the moment, we have too many matches and we can't manage them all. Some of our most important players need to rest, that's the point. The team is not firing on all cylinders at the moment." (Source: Yahoo/AFP)

Boro Lucky: Scrape into Last Eight of FA Cup

Photobucket

A freakish extra-time winner sent Middlesbrough into the last eight of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win over Sheffield United here on Wednesday. Boro had marginally shaded an uninspiring contest on points but it still took a bizarre own goal by Sheffield Utd goalkeeper Paddy Kenny to separate the two sides.

With penalties looming in the second period of extra time, Boro's Egyptian striker Mido fired in a shot that took a deflection off Chris Morgan and looped over Kenny and onto the post. The ball bounced straight back towards the goalkeeper who, caught unawares, contrived to fumble it over his own line, effectively handing Boro a quarter-final home tie against another Championship outfit, Cardiff.

Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate handed striker Afonso Alves his first start since his 12.7-million-pound capture in the January transfer window and it was a promising full debut from the Brazilian.

As early as the ninth minute, his clever turn forced defender Derek Geary to concede a free-kick and it took a fine block by Morgan to prevent him firing Boro into the lead soon afterwards. The visitors best early chance fell to former England striker James Beattie, who fluffed his volley straight at goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer after being found by Gary Naysmith's cross.

Another good block by Morgan denied Alves early in the second half and the Brazilian came close to scoring his first goal in Boro on 65 minutes after being fed by Julio Arca.Cutting inside, Alves unleashed a low right-foot shot which Kenny did well to hold.

The Brazilian was denied once more by a superb challenge from Kilgallon but his lack of a goal did not prevent him from being warmly cheered when he departed with just over a quarter of an hour left.

Boro had enjoyed the better of the first 90 minutes but it was their Championship opponents who finished stronger. After almost finding Rob Hulse with a knockdown four minutes from the end, Beattie could have won the tie in the final minute of regulation time but failed to hit the target after being found by Welsh veteran midfielder Gary Speed's ball into the near post.(Source: Yahoo/AFP)

Manchester City Owner Arrested

Photobucket

Manchester City owner Thaksin Shinawatra has been arrested after his return to Thailand following 17 months of self-imposed exile. The former Thai prime minister was taken into custody by police to face corruption charges after his arrival at Suvarnabhumi International Airport on a Thai Airways flight from Hong Kong.

Two arrest warrants were issued for the 58-year-old, who took over Manchester City last summer, after the September 2006 coup that removed him from power. He denies all charges. Thaksin was driven to the Supreme Court to face the charges against him.

“I believe in the Thai justice system, especially the court system,” Shinawatra had earlier told reporters before boarding the plane in Hong Kong. “Normally in justice systems everywhere, a person is innocent until proved guilty.”

Members of the Manchester City player squad - reportedly goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel and midfielder Kelvin Etuhu - were on the flight and said they planned to hold some soccer clinics with Thai children and work out with the national team.(Source: PA SportsTicker/yahoo)

Xavi Grabs Late, Late Leveller For Barca

Photobucket

Xavi Hernández produced a superb drive to draw the hosts level in Camp Nou and the team left the field to a standing ovation that only moments earlier could have been so different.

Despite having the majority of possession and chances, Barça fell behind midway through the second half to a David Villa goal and looked set to lose for the first time in 15 matches.Valencia arrived at Camp Nou with a very efficient game-plan that involved playing effectively on the counter-attack, maintaining a nine-man defence and breaking up Barça's rhythm

While that worked to an extent, the fact that the visitors are taking anything back to Mestalla for the second leg is thanks to an inspired display by their goalkeeper, Timo Hildebrand. The German custodian made a strong of fine saves to dent the Blaugrana and keep his side in with a chance of claiming an impressive victory.

Hildebrand's busy evening began in the seventh minute as he denied Xavi at close range before Samuel Eto'o hit the rebound at Raúl Albiol and Lionel Messi was the last to take aim only to see the ball chested away. Gaby Milito then fired just over as the chances continued to be created only at one end after Valencia's one attack ended with Joaquín's goal being ruled out for offside.

Thierry Henry shot over the bar as Frank Rijkaard's team were forced to try from long range after finding the visitors' packed defence sometimes too much to break through.Just before the interval, Hildebrand pushed away Éric Abidal's and straight after the break he was forced to keep out a low drive from Messi.

The keeper kept Messi out yet again soon after and made an even better stop as he was at full-stretch to stop Samuel Eto'o scoring. Those saves meant that Valencia had remained level and their forward finally did their defence justice as the away team took a surprise lead.

David Silva played a neat exchange of passes before finding substitute Javier Arizmendi on the right and he sent a low cross into the centre which Villa converted from close range.Immediately after the goal, the visitors livened up and looked capable of adding a second but they were soon pressed back by Barça's desire not to lose.

Andrés Iniesta picked out Gianluca Zambrotta with a diagonal ball on the right and the Italian took aim only to hammer a shot wide of the near post.

Then Milito decided to come forward and have a go and his long range shot was tipped wide by Hildebrand before Touré aimed for the far post with a curling shot the Hildebrand tipped the ball away with a save for the cameras.

There was to be no giving up by the home team and in the 94th minute Eto'o saw his final shot saved, but this time Xavi guided home the rebound. Valencia may have complained that Eto'o pushed away his marker, but they had no real complaints about the result after a compelling encounter set up a scintillating second leg next month.(source: goal.com)

Inter Milan's Chivu Dismisses Roma Traitor Claims

Inter Milan defender Cristian Chivu has dismissed claims from some Roma fans that he is a "traitor" for leaving the club last summer.

The Romania international, ahead of tonight's big game, said: "In Rome I was fine, I have a clear conscience even if I have suffered a lot because some have called me a traitor for wanting to leave.

"Alberto Aquilani and Daniel De Rossi are among the best midfielders in the world. If Inter could buy them, they would be huge signings, but I think it would be difficult to lure them away." (Source: Tribalfootball.com)

Differing Preparations, Similar Ambitions

Photobucket

Preview: Manchester City - Everton

Manchester City host Everton fresh from having 15 days of rest. The FA Cup and European competition have come and gone since City registered a shock 2-1 upset over Manchester United two weeks ago, while during the same time Everton travelled to Norway and back again to dispense of SK Brann in the Uefa Cup.

class="fullpost">

How the differing preparations will affect the game is hard to call. Sven-Goran Eriksson may well have fancied the games to roll-on thick and fast following his team’s triumph over their fierce local rivals, so as to make the most of the immediate feel-good factor. Then again, he may well have appreciated the extra time afforded him so that he could fine-tune his side’s patterns of playing football, and ingrain new January signing Benjani into the style of the team.

David Moyes, on the other hand, won’t mind when the games come or how frequently, in-fact he pointed out before the mid-week win over Brann that he would welcome 20-odd games from now until the end of the season as it would mean he would have reached the Uefa Cup final. The Scot wasn’t always this way. In previous seasons his grumpiness graced pre and post-match interviews more often than not, but the scintillating form the Toffees have displayed so far this season has turned Moyes’ frown up-side down.

To be more specific, the Toffees are the third highest team in the in-form table from the Premiership, having won all six games in 2008, making them the favourites for the coveted fourth Champions League finishing spot.

All-in-all, Monday’s fixture promises to be a great game. Not many are expecting fireworks like a clash between United and Arsenal, but the two teams - unlike in past years - will approach this game full of confidence, in-form and willing to play
attacking football. Which should set-us up for an exciting tie that will have extra meaning for the European qualification positions - a tussle that seems to get tighter every passing week.

Now that Liverpool seem to have regained their footing after a recent stumble, Everton will have a real fight on their hands for fourth position. They will still want to qualify for the CL, but with a Uefa Cup campaign to navigate as well they may end up in a fight for the Uefa Cup places, which takes them into direct competition with Manchester City.(Source: Goal.com)

Heinze: Sometimes People Don't Listen

Photobucket

Gabriel Heinze admitted that a lapse in concentration got the better of his side against Getafe at the Bernabeu, but praised the Azulones for their quick-thinking regardless...

class="fullpost">

The Argentine stopper felt himself partially culpable for Getafe's goal, which came on the break as Madrid players continued to celebrate a disallowed strike at the other end.He may have tracked back to defence while others cheered, but he was still unhappy."That's football, and Getafe pulled off a wise gamble," noted the former Manchester United man.

"There was a point in their favour and they knew just how to take advantage of it. We didn't do well at that particular moment, and I never welcome goals that happen when I'm back. But it was good for them, they took advantage of it and showed that it was good for them. I was too far away and sometimes one doesn't listen. I saw that they wanted to strike soon. It was a fast play where they outnumbered us: a true counterattack. They pulled it off perfectly and there was nothing we could do."

The left-back looked ahead to upcoming games and plotted a recovery. "We know the things that need improvement, which is good," he began.

"We were very disappointed in the locker room not to pick up the three points, as was our goal. I'm happy with the effort as the team run, fought and played hard. But matches are settled in small details, which is why we lost. Barcelona? We'll see at the end of the season." (Source: Steve Michaels, Goal.com)

Woody Wins Cup for Spurs

Photobucket

Jonathan Woodgate's headed goal in extra-time gave Spurs a 2-1 victory over holders Chelsea in the Carling Cup final.Spurs made the brighter start to the showpiece but wasted a host of chances before Didier Drogba, who sent a 25-yard free-kick narrowly wide on 33 minutes, made no mistake six minutes later, steering an effort around the wall to leave Paul Robinson flat-footed.

Drogba's goal saw him become the first player to score in three League Cup finals - but Spurs drew level on 70 minutes when the linesman spotted a handball by Wayne Bridge in the 18-yard box. Referee Mark Halsey pointed to the spot, and Dimitar Berbatov kept his cool to slide the spot-kick home. The goal sparked a concerted push for a winner by Juande Ramos' troops - but the Blues held firm to force an extra 30 minutes.

Spurs kept their momentum going in the extra period and took the lead on 94 minutes, when Jermaine Jenas floated a free-kick into the Chelsea box. Woodgate glanced the ball onto Cech's gloves and it rebounded off the Spurs defender's face and into the net. Robinson then pulled off good saves to deny Salomon Kalou and Joe Cole in the dying stages and secure glory for Ramos' heroes. Tottenham striker Robbie Keane described the outcome as a "dream come true".

He told Sky Sports 1: "Hopefully this is start of something special, hopefully we can kick on now. It's special for the fans."This was a massive test for us and it's unbelievable and a dream come true to come out as winners. I dreamt of this moment as kid and I'm speechless."

Matchwinner Woodgate said: "I don't really go up for corners but I took a chance and was able to get my head on it and luckily it went it."I think we were the best team and hopefully we can push on from this next year. Chelsea are a top side and they showed that today but we did it."

Photobucket

Ramos was "happy because the people (fans) are very happy" while captain Ledley King hailed the "spirit" of his side.
Chelsea boss Avram Grant felt his side were unlucky to lose the match but called on his players to regain focus for the challenges ahead. He told Sky Sports 1: "I think even in the second half Tottenham were not in the game and that we were the better side."The penalty put them back in the game and that turned the match. The second goal was from a set-piece so we are disappointed.

"I did not think it was a penalty. Wayne Bridge could not keep his hand behind his back when he was challenging for the ball and you saw it was not the referee who gave it but the linesman."It was always going to be close because cup finals are like this and it was not a great performance from both teams. We tried to score a goal and keep it tight but we lost."(Source: Sportinglife)

Reina: No Dressing-Room Rift At Anfield

Photobucket

Jose 'Pepe' Reina has rubbished reports that Liverpool’s dressing room has become split along national lines.Liverpool goalkeeper Jose Reina has angrily dismised rumours that the dsquad at Anfield is divided into national cliques.

The suggestion is that a rift has developed between Liverpool's well-represented Spanish contingent and the native English players under Spanish coach Rafa Benitez. But Reina instantly dismisses th rumour as totally unfounded.

Reina insists that the whole squad is united and looking to bring success to the club - even if some of the players have been less vocal in their public support of Benitez than the likes of striker Fernando Torres."That is being said in a few newspapers that are lying,” Reina told Setanta Sports said in response to reports of divisions.

The dressing room has been absolutely together and quite strong in the bad moments. He [Benitez] is the boss and he has been quite successful in his four seasons, and there is no doubt about him. There is a dressing room and there are different opinions," Reina added. "Rafa brought Fernando to English football and with him he has become an even better player, and it's normal he can speak really well about him.“I have the same feelings. He brought me here three years ago and all I have done has been improvement."To be a good manager you cannot be the friend of the players, because they have to respect you and know who is boss." Irureta: Sevilla Surpassed Us

New Real Zaragoza coach Javier Irureta implies that he was surprised by Sevilla's rout of his men at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, and felt that it might have gone differently had poor circumstances not intervened...

Reflecting on the 5-0 loss in Nervion, the coach shrugged, "Sevilla surpassed us in a game in which there were a number of influencing factors in the defeat. "The injury to Sergio, accompanied by going 1-0 down soon afterwards was one of them. We lost concentration, and then Sevilla began to grow in stature."

The ex-Deportivo boss continued, "At half time, and 3-0, we tried to settle the second half. "But it wasn't to be because the goal came soon after, and then Diogo's red card, which will affect the team."

Zaragoza could potentially be drawn into the relegation battle, with Irureta being under no illusions. "Failure to achieve forty or so points is a possibility," he warned.

"But we're not yet in that situation. Let's change it over the coming days. We'll draw a line under this one and think ahead to Levante."(Source: Steve Michaels, Goal.com)

Ramos: We Must Believe We're Not Inferior

align="center">

Preview Final Carling Cup

Photobucket

Juande Ramos is awaiting the Carling Cup final as eagerly as anyone, and believes the key lies in believing they are not second best.

Cup finals are nothing news for Juande Ramos, who has quite a habit of winning these. In fact, until Sevilla were beaten by Milan in the European Super Cup clash last year, they had seen off Middlesbrough, Barcelona, Espanyol and Getafe to claim a number of trophies under Ramos. "What is the secret? Above all, we have to try to convince the players they're not inferior to Chelsea," he said on Friday.

"It's a game of 90 minutes, 11 against 11. They have a lot of possibilities to win the game.If they play scared, then we could end up losing because of that, so it's up to us to be able to convince them they can win."

Indeed, that was how Sevilla rubbed shoulders with Real Madrid and Barcelona."Sevilla, when we played Real Madrid and Barcelona, were never inferior to them because we had that mentality and we ended up winning those games and winning trophies," he added."

The players need to believe they have the capability to do more than they were doing." His final say on Cup finals? "It is a bit like war. You either live or die." (Source: Neal Glew, Goal.com)

Fergie Salutes United's Front Four

Photobucket

Manchester United gave Newcastle a thrashing at St James' Park to move within three points of Arsenal, with Sir Alex Ferguson praising the endeavours of his front four stars.

Sir Alex Ferguson was understandably delighed as his Red Devils stuck five goals past a sorry Newcastle at St James' Park.

And while the Scot praised the work rate of the whole team, he paid special attention to the efforts of front four Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez and Nani.

Rotation

"I think we were fresher in the centre midfield," Fergie told Setanta Sports of today's tussle in which he rotated from the Lyon midweek clash. "We brought in Carrick and Fletcher after Scholes, Hargreaves and Anderson on Wednesday and it worked well.

Great Attackers

"But the match was decided by the ability of our front players," he continued. "They were brilliantm, all four of them. We could have scored more - we made some great chances.

"Ronaldo and Rooney scored two apiece and will take the headlines but the movement of Tevez and Nani were great too. Van der Sar did well when he needed to and it was a great team performance all round."

Pipe Down

Asked what the gameplan had been, Fergie said it was simple: shut the home fans up as quickly as possible. "The first job to do here with this great atmosphere is to try and quieten the home fans and I think we did that early on," he said. "The form against Arsenal last weekend in Lyon has stressed our urgency to try and do better after the Manchester City defeat." (Source: Goal.com)

Ronaldo Hints At Milan Exit

Photobucket

Speaking frankly about his future, Ronaldo has hinted that if he does return, it could well not be with Milan. El Fenomeno's current contract with Milan runs out in the summer, and while Adriano Galliani has shown a willingness to consider offering him a new one, any progress on that will only be made after monitoring the Brazilian's progress.

As such, Milan are unlikely to offer him a new deal for a few months yet, meaning that he is more likely than not to be out of contract come July 1.

Rather surprisingly, Ronaldo has himself admitted that while Milan remain in pole position for the moment, he could well look elsewhere to make his comeback.“We’ll see," he said.

"If I manage to recover at my best, then Milan are in pole position considering the way they have treated me and how much I am loved here. The human rapport I have with club and teammates is remarkable. But we will have to wait and see. It is my dream to play for Flamengo, who were my team when I was a young boy, but it all depends on how I recover."

The most clear indication was dropped when he said he would make the final decision once he was back training."The important thing is to get back on the playing field, then I will decide where,” he concluded.(Source: Frank Barrone, Goal.com)

Amoruso: Penalty Was Right

Photobucket

Reggina striker Nicola Amoruso insists that the penalty awarded to his side was legitimate despite a number of protests by the Bianconeri. The penalty did seem a little harsh on Juventus who feel that they too should have had a spot kick.

Amoruso seemed to have been clipped by Momo Sissoko as the defender attempted to clear a cross in injury time. Sissoko tried an overhead kick in an attempt to smother the ball clear but he missed it.

Contact with Amoruso was slight and replays suggest he did not intend to bring down the striker. However the referee who was quite some distance away from the incident pointed to the spot.

“It’s clear, he made contact but he did not see me coming, he hit my arm, I don’t think there can be any doubts, he tried to clear it but he hit me instead,” said Amoruso.

“It’s the first time in ages that we have been given a penalty, it was the right decision and we finally got it.

“We needed the win, it will help us a lot especially from a morale point of view.”

Reggina are now two points from safety and they will be hoping to pull away from the relegation zone when they visit Lazio next week.(Source: Salvatore Landolina, Goal.com)

Rooney: Arsenal Slip Spurred Us On

Photobucket

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney admitted after the 5-1 win over Newcastle that his team were motivated by Arsenal's 2-2 draw against Birmingham City.

Rooney scored two goals in what was a Man of the Match display to guide the Red Devils to a crushing win over Newcastle at St. James' Park.

Speaking to Setanta Sports after the game, he admitted that Arsenal's draw had helped motivate the team.

“We saw the Arsenal result before we played and that made us want to win even more, if that's possible,” he said.

"We knew we had to go out there and get three points, nothing less.

“Now we have to keep working hard and winning to try and overtake Arsenal and hopefully stay there until the end of the season.”

His first goal was set up by Ronaldo's cross from the left, while the second was a delightfully curled effort from just outside the box following a corner, something he was very pleased with.

“I enjoyed my second goal. I'm always on the edge of the box for corners and I've been saying one will drop out to me and I'll score – thankfully that happened today,” he said.

Arsenal have a three point lead over Manchester United, but must travel to Old Trafford. Both sides must also host Liverpool, as well as travel to Stamford Bridge, leaving the title race wide open.(Source:Neal Glew, Goal.com)

Lupa Makan Dihibur Birmingham dan Arsenal

Photobucket

Wow dahsyat!

He...he...

''Cocoklah itu. Jangan makan malam,'' kata istri.

''He he , jg trllu maniak blog. Rdk pernah bilang, blog kurang kerjaan, ha ha. Kena kita!'' Candra Ibrahim mengingatkan saya via SMS.

Sisi baiknya oke sih. Jadi lupa makan malam (meskipun tetap aja sambil ngeblog sebungkus peyek nyaris habis. he...he..).

Wajah mereka prihatin. Wajah-wajah yang tahu, kaki alatlah modal utama mereka mencari duit, dan menghibur kita semua. Hiburan yang membuat saya, mampu menahan hasrat makan nasi. hi..hi...(ade adran syahlan)

Eduardo Patah Kaki Kiri, Taylor Dibela Manajer

Photobucket

Alasannya sang pemain memang tak berniat mencederai lawan.

"Martin dalam kondisi bingung. Bukanlah kebiasaan dia melakukan tekel kasar seperti itu. Dia merasa tak banyak kontak yang terjadi," tandas McLeish.(Sumber: Detik.com)

Eduardo Cedera Parah, ESPN Tak Tayangkan Tekel Horor Taylor

Photobucket

Horror Injury Rules Eduardo Out For The Season

LIVE: BIRMINGHAM CITY 1-2 ARSENAL
Photobucket

A horrific broken leg suffered by Eduardo looks certain to rule him out for the rest of the season, and for the European Championships.Eduardo went down under a 3rd minute tackle from Birmingham defender Martin Taylor in the 3rd minute, and it was immediately clear from the reaction of his teammates.

The challenge did not look a horrific one, but perhaps mindful of the damage it had caused, referee Mike Dean handed Taylor an immediate red card.Play was held up for a massive seven minutes as he received treatment, before he was stretchered off and rushed straight to hospital.

There were suggestions that the injury was similar to the one suffered by (then) Manchester United man Alan Smith against Liverpool in 2006, one which kept him out for the better part of a year. The Croatian international is certain to miss the rest of the season, as well as the European Championships, and Arsenal will most likely have to begin next season without him.(Source: Neal Glew, Goal.com)

My Heart Says Yes, Body Says No

Injured star Ronaldo has left hospital and says that his heart is telling him to carry on playing football, even if his body is telling him no.

The 31-year-old has been at the Pitié Salpetriere Hospital in Paris recovering from surgery following the horrific ruptured tendon in his knee he sustained last week. Ronaldo has now been discharged and has given his first interview. “If I feel good and I don’t feel any pain, I will continue to play,” the Brazilian insisted.

“If my body is behind me, I will return to the pitch. To leave football would be a difficult decision. At the moment I am thinking about recovering as well as possible, but of course the injury was a very hard blow. I want to carry on playing and my heart is in it, but my body is giving me signs of fatigue. This period will be useful as it will allow me to recuperate physically and to be able to live a normal life in the future.”

Ronaldo will not return to the playing field for at least nine months, although the last time he suffered this same injury in 2000, he took 20 months to recover. “My motivation is the same as it was then,” El Fenomeno stated.

“I’m hoping that this time there won’t be the delays that I experienced last time. The first injury was a completely new experience, but now I can stand on the shoulders of that.We know what to do and we know what’s best if I want to be able to return to football. There’s always this love for football, the passion for the sport and the desire o score goals. And that is the light at the end of the tunnel, but it won’t be easy.” (Source: Roberto Rossi, Goal)

Hati Saya Berkata Ya, Tubuh Saya Berkata Tidak

Ronaldo cedera ketika Milan ditahan Livorno 1-1 dalam laga Seri A pekan alu.

Gol terakhirnya untuk Milan dibuat ketika I Rossoneri mengalahkan Napoli 5-2. (Sumber: Gusti Satya, Goal)

Terry and Lampard Not Starting

Photobucket

Chelsea manager Avram Grant is keeping skipper John Terry and vice-captain Frank Lampard in the dark over whether they will start Sunday's League Cup final against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.

"It is never an easy decision who to select. I don't believe rotation is the way but sometimes you prefer other players," Grant told reporters on Friday.

"It was not a good situation when Terry and Lampard were out injured (recently) but this is my life, I like it and I can't do without the pressure. It will be the same over the next three months."

Midfielder Lampard scored his 100th and 101st Chelsea goals in last Saturday's 3-1 FA Cup fifth-round win over Huddersfield Town but neither he nor centre half Terry started the midweek 0-0 draw at Olympiakos Piraeus in the Champions League.

"It's not an easy decision because Terry is a great captain, even when he is not playing. He is also a great defender but I think the other two (centre halves) have done a great job.

"Alex and (Ricardo) Carvalho were very good on Tuesday and before his injury John Terry was excellent. This is a very hard decision.(Source: Yahoo, Reuters)

Is A New Era Dawning At Spurs?

Photobucket

What: Carling Cup, Final
Who: Tottenham Hotspur (11th EPL) v. Chelsea (3rd EPL)
When: Sunday, 24th February, 15:00 (GMT)
Where: Wembley Stadium, London

It’s an all-London encounter at the new Wembley’s first ever Carling Cup final. Chelsea are firm favourites, but what chance of a cup upset? Is A New Era Dawning At Spurs?

Some pundits are tipping Spurs to defy the odds and lift the Carling Cup on Sunday, believing that Juande Ramos’ side will want it more than Chelsea. Whether that’s true or false, we’ll find out on Sunday.

But one thing is for sure: Tottenham have more than the odd score to settle with their West London rivals. The White Hart Lane outfit have notched only one win over the Blues in sixteen attempts, making them the butt of many a joke around Stamford Bridge.

The league meeting between the two sides this season saw Chelsea round out resounding 2-0 winners, but Tottenham will care little for records or history in the build-up to this match. Firstly, this is a new regime: much has changed at the club in the four months since Martin Jol’s departure, let alone since the first of those sixteen games. New players, new ideas and a new belief.

The squad are unquestionably fitter; the confidence obliterated in Jol’s final weeks has returned. Reinforcements have been brought in where necessary, while the likes of Jermaine Jenas and Aaron Lennon are delivering on the potential they’ve promised for so long. There are very few teams in the Premier League who wouldn’t swap their front two for Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane, given the chance.

Secondly, this is cup football: if there’s one coach who’s proved his ability in knock-out competition, it is Juande Ramos. Manchester United’s defeat of Tottenham in the FA Cup represents the Spaniards only cup elimination in over 50 knock-out games. In that time he’s delivered the Uefa Cup (twice) and the Copa del Rey to Sevilla.

Now in London, he’s taken Spurs to their first final in six years and given them a chance to lift their first silverware since 1999’s League Cup triumph over Leicester City. The thrashing of Arsenal in the semi-final second leg made people sit up and take note of this new Tottenham side. True, it was only against the young Gunners, but these are nevertheless top players – to smash them 5-1 sent out a statement of intent.

Given the tendency of the Big Four to dominate domestic football in recent times, Spurs will have the majority of non-Chelsea support on their side come Sunday. But the Lilywhites don’t want this win for the good of English football, they want it for themselves. They want to prove they can deliver when it matters against the big sides. They want to get the better over their London neighbours. And, most of all, they want to get Ramos’ regime off to a flying start.

Grant Seeks To Emulate Mourinho

Chelsea are going strong on all fronts, being as they are the only English club still fighting for all four major trophies. In all competitions it’s now sixteen game without defeat. The Premiership and Champions League may be the Blues’ top priorities, but make no mistake: Chelsea do care about the Carling Cup.

Those who suggest Avram Grant’s side may be less hungry for silverware on Sunday than Tottenham Hotspur would do well to remember that the Blues have lifted this cup in two of the last three seasons. Now they are aiming to become to first side to retain the trophy since Nottingham Forest in 1990.

Last year’s final against Arsenal in Cardiff will be remembered for the ugly brawl that rather marred the spectacle. But as unsightly as these scenes were they illustrated one thing: both sides’ passion and desire to win. Just like last year, we have an all-London final. Emotions will run high.

For all Chelsea’s recent success against the Lilywhites, that one recent defeat still smarts: a goal to the good at White Hart Lane in last season’s Premiership game, the Blues controversially had skipper John Terry dismissed and conceded a last-minute goal to lose 2-1. Looking back on events at the season’s end, that defeat proved a pivotal moment in the title race. Thus Chelsea, too, have a score to settle – they have no intention of gifting this trophy to Spurs.

Of all the big sides, Chelsea are undoubtedly the one who take the Carling Cup most seriously. Avram Grant could have followed Ferguson or Wenger’s path by fielding youngsters if he wished. Instead, the Israeli always puts out a strong side, particularly when things get serious. Despite the injuries and African Nations Cup, Chelsea professionally wore down an in-form Everton over two legs. The Blues had to work hard for this final place, and have earned it on merit.

As much as Grant may play it cool at his press conferences, he will be determined to get his hands on this first piece of silverware since taking over a boss at the end of September. The Israeli was ridiculed by many upon his appointment, called a lame duck or Abramovich’s puppet. Thus far, he has proved his critics wrong and showed that there is life at Stamford Bridge after José Mourinho. But one thing Mourinho never did at Chelsea was lose a cup final.

TEAM NEWS

Tottenham

Michael Dawson and Kevin Prince-Boateng are struggling with hamstring injuries and probably won’t start, but Pascal Chimbonda should be fine and Ledley King should skipper the side after a month out with knee troubles. Alan Hutton was ineligible against Slavia Prague in midweek but should start at right-back on Sunday.Ramos, meanwhile, has remained tight-lipped about the goalkeeping situation.

Paul Robinson returned in goal against Slavia and pulled off a string of fine saves. Judging by previous games, Ramos hasn’t tended to rotate his goalkeeper which could signal the England man’s return at the expense of Radek Cerny. Zokora and Huddlestone are vying for the remaining midfield spot with Lennon, Malbranque and Jenas all certainties.

Full Squad: Robinson, Cerny, Hutton, Chimbonda, Lee, Gunter, Dawson, King, Woodgate, Rocha, Kaboul, Tainio, O'Hara, Huddlestone, Zokora, Jenas, Malbranque, Lennon, Boateng, Taarabt, Bent, Keane, Berbatov

Likely XI (4-4-2): Robinson – Hutton, King, Woodgate, Chimbonda – Lennon, Zokora, Jenas, Malbranque – Keane, Berbatov

Chelsea

Reports on Friday suggested John Terry and Frank Lampard – rested in midweek against Olympiacos – may again be benched for this game. Avram Grant kept his cards close to his chest at the press conference, however. All in all the Israeli made eleven changes for the trip to Greece, likely with this Sunday’s big final in mind, and has no new injury concerns.

A fully fit Chelsea squad probably has fiercer competition for a spot in the starting XI than that of any other side in the country, but Grant must decide whether to switch formation to accommodate more of his star names. Drogba and Anelka have never played together and the signs are that unless the Frenchman is given a spot on the wing one of them will start on the bench. Grant gets paid a lot of money to pick his XI… we don’t so we’ll just have a quick guess.

Full Squad: Cech, Cudicini, Hilario, Ferreira, Belletti, Terry, Alex, Ben-Haim, Carvalho, A Cole, Bridge, Obi, Makelele, Sidwell, Essien, Lampard, Ballack, Malouda, Wright-Phillips, J Cole, Drogba, Anelka, Pizarro, Shevchenko, Kalou

Possible XI (4-3-2-1): Cech – Ferreira, Carvalho, Terry, A Cole – Essien, Ballack, Lampard – Wright-Phillips, J Cole – Drogba

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Tottenham – Dimitar Berbatov (pictured)

Dimitar Berbatov is often hailed as Tottenham’s best player, with a long list of suitors queuing up for a summer transfer swoop. No one can doubt the Bulgarian’s class, but some criticise his occasional disinterest in play. This is Berbatov’s biggest game since joining Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in 2006, and it’s his club’s first final for six years. Can the striker prove himself on the big stage and go down in Spurs folklore by shooting the Lilywhites to victory? His goalscoring ability could be key, but equally his ability to lay on a world-class assist from absolutely nothing.

Chelsea – Michael Ballack

Michael Ballack has put in some excellent displays for Chelsea since making his return from a long injury lay-off. The German has finally showed the form in a blue shirt that earned him those big money wages and a move from Bayern Munich. The quality of talent around him always allows Ballack to perform at a high level, but then again the quality of competition for his starting spot will keep him on his toes. A man who poses a threat in the air, from free-kicks and from the penalty spot, the German international could be a key man for Chelsea on Sunday.

PREDICTION

Finals are so hard to predict. Last season's FA Cup final and the dire draw with Liverpool the other week demonstrate that Chelsea can be rather cagey in important games. The only thing I’m sure of is there will be more cards than goals. On paper this is Chelsea’s trophy to lose, but, as they say, football isn’t a game played on paper.

Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea
