The First Goal Tevez to MU

Manchester United (MU) finished his tour of Africa with a victory over Premier League rivals Portsmouth in Nigeria. United striker Carlos Tevez hit the crossbar with a penalty recovered in the first half after Frazier Campbell was shot down by defender Glen Johnson.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side finally broke the deadlock through Chris Eagles for 50 minutes before Tevez slack for losing their first 13 minutes later. Jermain Defoe fired home an 89th minute consolation for Pompey.

Defoe had begun since the beginning of summer with the signing of Peter Crouch, but the pair fought against the United stubborn defence. Both teams have made wholesale changes for the game after being in the action just 24 hours earlier.

United awaits the more polished, but not to convert a series of chances before the end Eagles put them ahead. Tevez was occupied his usual self and was rewarded for his work-rate when he beat Pompey goalkeeper David James with a powerful low shot just inside the area.(bbc)
