Ronaldo return boosts Tevez

Manchester United's Carlos Tevez feels have again Cristiano Ronaldo is like winning an extra player ahead of Wednesday's visit Villarreal.

Ronaldo was set for a place on the substitutes' bench for the Champions League Group E opener at Old Trafford, just two months after ankle surgery that Sir Alex Ferguson felt could keep on the sidelines until October.

With Michael Carrick ruled out for up to six weeks with a broken foot and Dimitar Berbatov a major doubt after picking a knee injury in Liverpool at the weekend, the return of Ronaldo could not be better time, especially in Chelsea John Terry will take available for Sunday successful in the Premier League Stamford Bridge after its successful appeal against the red card received in Manchester City.

"Cristiano is a great player for us and it's great to have him on our side," said Tevez.

"It's like having an extra player when he is there because he is such a danger to our adversaries. It will be a major boost to have him back."

With the absence of Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney the best performance of the season comes in a shirt of England, United Tevez has been most obvious threat to attack so far.

Argentina is marked with interest the Red Devils' goal early in Liverpool on Saturday, so it is little wonder Ferguson wants a tie £ 30million deal for Tevez, confirmed that he happily accept.

"From the first moment I arrived here, I would have loved to sign a long-term contract," he said.

"Last year was a very successful season and it would be wonderful if the president submits a long-term contract in front of me. If he did that, I would sign it without a doubt."

Tevez is convinced that there will be no repeat of the unfortunate performance of European champions Liverpool, noted that such stinging criticism from Ferguson. The Scots claimed the United defence was no better than non-standard league and something that nobody at Old Trafford hopes to see again.

"Whenever we lost a game last season, returned and showed us to be stronger," said Tevez.

"That's why we won two titles last year. I am confident that we will see a reaction from the players tonight."

Having won his second Champions League success in Moscow last May, Ferguson knows that is equal to Bob Paisley's record of three wins in European football's most prestigious competition if United can become the first team to defend successfully trophy from the Champions League format was introduced in 1992.

However, of most interest to the United Scot is taking overall tally to four, moving them together with the European giants Bayern Munich and Ajax and only one derives from Liverpool. "Personal goals do not come into it at all," said Ferguson.

"But I have said many times that we should have won the European Cup more often and I hope we can win again. That would take us to four and registration would be much more acceptable in Europe. That is the challenge and create a little more history of our club. "
