Ricardo Quaresma scored in his debut in Serie A, while Sulley Muntari received his marching orders as José Mourinho claimed his first victory in charge of Inter with a memorable 2-1 victory over Catania.
A controversial own goal on 48 minutes Cristian Terlizzi - the defender's header was determined by the arbitrator who crossed the goalline before being caught by goalkeeper Albano Bizzarri - settled the contest.
Gianvito Plasmati header three minutes before halftime shocked the home, but the lead lasted only 60 seconds, with Quaresma shot deflected of levelling the score.
An action-packed first half then ended with Muntari being red-carded after flinging an arm in the face of Giacomo Tedesco. Earlier in the day, Fabrizio Miccoli scored twice as Roma beat Palermo 3-1.
New Palermo coach Davide Ballardini guided to victory in his first match in charge but his side had to come back after the eighth minute strike from Julio Baptista.
Miccoli grabbed goals in the 20 th and 56 minutes to turn the game into the home side in favour and Edison Cavani the 73rd minute strike ensured victory.
