Arsene Wenger: Theo needs protection

Arsène Wenger has called on referees to get tough with ax-men who attack Arsenal star Theo Walcott. The head of gunners was furious about the Walcott was kicked in the Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League on Wednesday.

And it is certain that the quick end is now a man tagging after his sensational hat-trick for England in Croatia. Wenger said: "Unfortunately for a player who receives a name to be dangerous, the first response you get mistreated.

"We do not expect presents from anyone, but we want to protect the referees. You do not want any pressure on the referees, but that's all in the rule book. If, for example, allows the first bad tackle then the second makes it difficult for a referee to be treated. I thought that Wednesday night, for example, the goal was not the ball. If a guy plays hard it is to Theo to deal with him. But if the kid Theo goals, you have to be punished."
