Fergie: Ronaldo will be red hot against

Alex Ferguson believes Cristiano Ronaldo will be red hot against Chelsea after being forgiven by the fans. The Manchester United reached as subcontractors for his first appearance of the season.

And the Old Trafford faithful gave him a rousing reception despite having tried to quit the club for Real Madrid in the summer.

Boss Ferguson said: "The crowd reaction was important for Cristiano. It helps you realize what a great club that is as fair and those fans with him. He will have a great encouragement from that. "Cristiano has shown great loyalty in five years, but has had a turbulent summer, when much has been said.

"But we had a meeting in Portugal in June and the matter was over. Since then has been devoted to getting fit and commit to the club."

Ronaldo has made a timely return of an ankle injury with United travelling to title rivals Chelsea on Sunday.

Fergie added: "It would be a big ask for him to play from the start on Sunday. But undoubtedly will have much better chance of selection thereafter."

Ronaldo not to break the deadlock following his 61st-minute arrival as holders United began its defense Champions League with a disappointing draw against Villarreal. Fergie insisted: "I thought we played good football at times."
