Fletcher expects Terry appeal joy

Darren Fletcher believes that the Football Association have made the right decision to allow John Terry to face Manchester United on Sunday - despite Sir Alex Ferguson's fury that the Chelsea captain's red card has been canceled.

Fletcher admits that the thought of the dismissal of Terry in the city of Manchester last weekend from a lack of professional Brazilian striker Jo was the wrong decision. Ferguson, however, faces an FA investigation for claiming that referees chief Keith Hackett has not withdrawn the red card Terry has been a player of Manchester United.

Fletcher said: "I'm not surprised that he is going to be playing - I do not think it was a red card. He's captain of England and in the back, but beyond our control. We're not really worried about whether John Terry of the game, who cares about ourselves and what we have to do at Chelsea."

Last season the clash at Stamford Bridge ended in bitter confrontation. Rio Ferdinand kicked a female steward by mistake - I meant to kick off a wall - and a mass scuffle between United and Chelsea the players groundstaff erupted after Patrice Evra claimed that he had been racially insulted during an argument while warming after the game.

Evra has been charged with misconduct and has a personal hearing at the FA on October 2, while Chelsea have also been charged over comments allegedly made by groundsman Sam Bethell - that the club deny. But both Fletcher and Evra I do not think there will be any hangover from last season.

Evra said: "It will not affect anything. We have a new story with every game and we just know we have to win against Chelsea for the confidence of the team. It's the perfect game for us, the spirit is there, and we must show our quality. But I'm not saying that if we beat Chelsea then we won the league, or lose the game if we lost the league."

Fletcher believes that the importance of the game is so great that last season meetings have little impact. He added: "I do not think anybody is going to be even more fired because in the past. It's a great game and if you're not for this game, then it should not be playing. Everything that has happened in the past is forgotten and it is about what you do on that day to get the correct result."

The midfielder admits Scotland could not afford a bad result at Stamford Bridge after a start to the season has been poor by its standards. Fletcher said: "After losing against Liverpool can not afford to lose too much ground in the Premier League.

"Chelsea has a great record at home and is something we are looking to end and get ourselves back up the league. The first couple of games we had injuries and suspensions, but now we all back and now we are looking to put on. We have a team that likes to live up to the big occasion and there is none bigger than off to Chelsea, who have not lost at home for something like four years. I think we have the players and that definitely have the ability to go there and win the game."
