A footballer in the Premier League, the Everton player Steven Pienaar, was arrested for an alleged assault on a woman committed over the weekend in a home in Liverpool, reported today a spokesman for Merseyside Police.
The officers received a call in the early hours of Sunday after a woman was allegedly assaulted in a flat in Sefton Park, an area of Liverpool (northern England).
The South African international and Everton player Steven Pienaar went voluntarily to a police station that morning. The police confirmed that the detainee had been released on bail "while the investigation continues."
