When one considers that the last meetings between these sides were two of the most one sided contests in the history of the Premier League, this should, in theory, be an easy prediction to make.
However, the Red Devils have looked distinctly toothless so far this pre-season, with their new found fallibility in front of goal presenting Newcastle United with a chance to atone for the embarrassing defeats of last year.
Make no illusions, Manchester United should still start the defence of their Premier League crown with a victory, but with the Magpies invigorated under the leadership of Kevin Keegan anyone expecting a goal fest at Old Trafford could come away sorely disappointed.
