Marseille striker Djibril Cisse was loaned to English Premier League side Sunderland, the French club said on Wednesday.
Marseilles, Pape Diouf, president said both clubs had reached an "agreement in principle" under the international loan until the end of the season. "Some details have yet to be determined to make the loan officer," added Diouf.
The former Liverpool player Cisse, 27, had said earlier in the summer was seeking a return to English Premier League, to demonstrate that it remains a great player.
Cisse moved to Anfield in 2004 - win a Champions League medal with the Uefa Liverpool a season later - but not to make an impression at the club between July 2004 and June 2006, scoring 15 times in two plagued Injury seasons.
