Mutu must pay Chelsea 17 million euros

The FIFA has condemned the current player of Fiorentina to compensate his former club, who was dismissed after giving positive for cocaine in a doping control in 2004.

The House of Dispute Resolution of the Fifa has decided that the Romanian player Adrian Mutu must pay 13.68 million pounds (about 17 million euros) as compensation to Chelsea, which terminated the contract when he gave positive for cocaine in control doping in 2004, reported the English club.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled in May 2007 that the FIF would have to fix the amount that the striker should pay as compensation to Chelsea.

The doping control was done out of competition and the English club terminated the contract with the Romanian in October 2004. Later, the English Federation suspended the striker for seven months and the English League ruled that the misconduct of the Romanian was a unilateral breach of contract without just cause.

The player appealed to CAS, arguing that it was the Stamford Bridge club which broke the contract to fire, but the court in December 2005, ruled that "the misconduct of a player must be considered as a unilateral breach of contract" .--elmundo--
