Arsenal have a lot work

Arsenal captain William Gallas expressed his happiness with the opening day win over West Bromwich Albion, but stressed the need to improve. The Gunners won courtesy of an early winner from debutant Samir Nasri, a limit that a wonderful team move with a simple finish.

The Baggio were carved open numerous times in the opening quarter of an hour, but survived the scare and since then were almost comfortable defence against the Gunners.

Scott Carson, made his debut for the Championship winners, only one did, except in the second half and, indeed, had one or two opportunities to grab what would have been an amazing leveler.

Gallas, who broke an effort of almost 40 yards against the post from the outset, stressed the importance of winning this afternoon. "It was our first match in the Premier League. We played well but we suffered a lot. It's very important to win that game. West Bromwich played very well. In the second half played the ball long and it was not easy for us, but you know the mentality of the players is very good. We wanted to win."

When asked if this was a case of same old Arsenal as the Gunners squandered much of his power, Gallas insisted that things will improve, but there is work to do. "We have to work hard. It is only the beginning of the season. We need time to work very well before the next game, I think it will be okay."
