De Sar and Rooney May Miss Hammers Clash

Manchester United duo Edwin van der Sar and Wayne Rooney may miss their clash against West Ham United in the Premier League run-in...

United need two wins from their final two games to seal the league, though they could drop points, providing Chelsea - who are behind only on goal difference - drop the same number of points.

The second game is at Wigan Athletic, but first on the Red Devils' agenda is West Ham United, the same side they lost to on the final day of last season.

However, they had already sealed the league at that stage, while West Ham had it all to play for, sealing a magnificent final day survival bid with the 1-0 win courtesy of Carlos Tevez who, of course, now plies his trade at Old Trafford.

Now it's the Hammers who have nothing to play for - as they lie mid-table - while United know they must pick up the three points.

However, Van der Sar has complained that he is "totally wrecked", having played the last stint of matches despite having a persistent groin injury. The Dutch veteran has been called on for his vast experience, and though the games against the Hammers
and the Latics will be big ones, as they are not against big teams, Thomas Kuszcak or Ben Foster may be called on to replace the 37-year-old, who will obviously be hoping to be fully fit for the Champions League against Chelsea in Moscow.

Wayne Rooney's injury - picked up against Blackburn Rovers and aggravated against Chelsea - has already seen him sit out the Barcelona win, and for the sake of precaution, he - like van der Sar - will most likely rest against West Ham, and possibly against Wigan as well.

Owen Hargreaves has also been plagued with injuries throughout his brief stay at United so far, and could miss the game, while Nemanja Vidic will have recovered from the facial injury picked up against Chelsea that kept him out of the Barcelona win midweek.
