In that sense, the German said "recognize the high quality" of the combined Spanish, which said "deserve to be champions of Europe". The coach acknowledged the German Luis Aragones had more opportunities and stressed the great game shown by Spain throughout the tournament. "They had more opportunities than we do. The victory is correct," summed up.

With regard to the combined German captain Michael Ballack, whose presence in the party were doubts until the last moment, the selector said it was "very important participation" and defined it as a "leader" for the team. "It is our captain and has done many things special. Represents our team and I thank him," said Löw.
