Ref Clattenburg affected by the suspension




Referee Mark Clattenburg has been suspended pending further information in the reports regarding his alleged debts. The football associations and the referees' professional body Game Match Officials Ltd acted after complaints relating to the debts of companies linked to him.



Clattenburg was established to take charge of the FA Community Shield clash between Manchester United and Portsmouth. But officials County Durham has been replaced for Sunday to raise the curtain for the new season by Peter Walton.



In a joint statement from the FA and PGMO read: "PGMO is aware of media reports on alleged debts owed by companies linked to referee Mark Clattenburg. It has been decided that did not match any charge pending investigations into the background of these reports. The FA has also decided to appoint Peter Walton, referee for Sunday the FA Community Shield between Manchester United and Portsmouth in place of Mark Clattenburg."



A PGMO spokesman added: "It is in the best interest of Mark Clattenburg and the game that these reports are fully investigated and, during that time, he did not match any arbitrator. "Mark Clattenburg's leading referees in England and hopefully resolve this issue quickly."



Earlier this week, the Newcastle Chronicle reported that the power company Clattenburg MC NE Retail Ltd has been dissolved by the County Court Newcastle in a £ 59589 debt.(bbc)
