Juve impress United

Alessandro Del Piero Juventus shone as Manchester United took a real tussle at Old Trafford, drawing 0-0 with European

champion. The Bianconeri continued their tour in preparation for the Champions League preliminary round - which has now

been confirmed is Artmedia Bratislava 7-3 after a total victory over Tampere United.

His last visit here five years ago ended in the final defeat to Milan on penalties but, like that day,

Pavel Nedved was unavailable. The injured Czech's role was taken by Hasan Salihamidzic, Giorgio Chiellini moving to the left of

the back. Among those seeing the stands was England - and former Juve - manager Fabio Capello.

Mauro Camoranesi's shot was deflected by Wes Brown of Del Piero's desk, while at the other end Darren Fletcher fired

more than once appeared offside trap. Camoranesi was fortunate to get away with it when it accidentally gave the ball to Carlos

Tevez, then a good deal Rio Ferdinand finally stopped the Argentine-Italian inside the box.

Del Piero really should have scored in 20 minutes with a fantastic opportunity. Camoranesi was going to run another Mazy

and rolled across the unmarked eight yards captain, but hesitated to receive the ball at his feet stronger and allowed the United

defenders to throw in their way.

Pinturicchio is fine in the form of some fancy feet and shook off Ferdinand, while Vincenzo Iaquinta could not quite turn his

marker to collect a long ball. Del Piero also mounted a Nemanja Vidic deal that could easily have been a penalty.

Amauri Iaquinta replaced at half-time, while United presents Darron Gibson and Rafael Da Silva. Del Piero curled a free

kick at the bar, but the hosts had their best chance of the game until five minutes into the second half when a header from Paul

Scholes on the ground whistled past the near post.

Marco Marchionni came by a tired Camoranesi and Edwin van der Sar covered Marchionni an effort and Momo Sissoko

counterattack, the former Liverpool midfielder Jeera each contact. David Trezeguet took over Del Piero for the final 20 minutes,

a partnership with Amauri, while teenager Fausto Rossi replaced Salihamidzic. Buffon comfortably held a strike by Gibson and

Amauri loop header was over. He concluded goals at Old Trafford, but it was a fairly entertaining encounter with many positive

aspects to the coach Claudio Ranieri.

Manchester United: Van der Sar, Brown (Rafael 46), Vidic (Evans, 78), Ferdinand, Evra, Giggs, Fletcher (Gibson 46),

Scholes, O'Shea (Possebon 71), Martin (Silvestre 47), Tevez ( Campbell 69)
Juventus: Buffon; Grygera, Legrottaglie, Mellberg, Chiellini, Camoranesi (Marchionni 60), Poulsen (Tiago 89), Sissoko (Ekdale

82), Salihamidzic (Rossi 74), Iaquinta (Amauri 46), Del Piero (Trezeguet 71)
