Advocaat: not to give Bayern too much space

Zenit St Petersburg trainer Dick Advocaat was almost left speechless after watching his side blast four goals past Bayern Munich and make it through to the Uefa Cup final.

The Russian champions went into the game with a slight advantage after securing a 1-1 draw in the first leg, and they made the perfect start when Pavel Pogrebnyak fired home a fourth minute free kick.

Goals from Zyrianov and a first ever career goal from Fayzulin but the home side well and truly in the driving seat, before Pogrebnyak steered home a fourth goal on 73 minutes to humiliate Bayern and see them crash out of the tournament they had set their hearts on winning.

“It is unbelievable the way we played today. I have never seen anything like it” Advocaat beamed.

“The most important thing today was not to give Bayern too much space. Bayern never got into the game so a big compliment to my team.

“Today was our day” the Dutchman added.

The only sour note of the evening for Zenit was the yellow card dished out to striker Pavel Pogrebnyak, who will now miss the final.
